Reading #10 - policing terrorism in the post 9/11 era: Critical concerns in an age of hyper security. Created a paradoxical situation: the security response to the events of 9/11 has caused a shift in state priorities and has been cast as a turning point in modern history. The birth of an era of hyper security. Radical new interpretations of the rules of warfare, public security, citizenship rights, and state power. This war intensifying pre-existing tensions in the middle east. It is argued that some of these conflicts have been exacerbated by the us sponsoring the war on terror. Others it is the coordinated anti-terrorist efforts of nation-states around the world that have successfully implemented systems for thwarting potential terrorist attacks. Policing terrorism has transformed the priorities of the post 9/11 state from one of liberty to one of security: new anti-terrorist laws, public policies, police intelligence, securitization of public spaces, etc.
