Chromosomal theory of inheritance chromosomes are carriers of genetic information. Traits are controlled by alleles: occur on chromosomes at particular location called gene locus. Dominant allele masks expression of other allele, the recessive allele. Genotype the alleles an individual receives at fertilization. Two trait inheritance if four factors segregate into gametes independently, 4 phenotypes would result. Law of independent assortment: each pair of factors segregates independently of the others, all possible combinations of factors can occur in the gametes. Use punnett square to calculate the results of genetic crosses: assume each gamete contains one allele for each trait, have all possible combinations of alleles. Rule of multiplication says that the chance of two or more independent events occurring together is the product of their chances of occurring separately.
