Document Summary
Motivation- the urge to move toward one"s goals. Needs- states of cellular or bodily deficiency that compel drives. Drives- occur when our bodies are deficient in some need. Incentive- any external object or event that motivates behavior. The drive reduction model: homeostasis- maintaining physiological balance, set point- the ideal, fixed setting of a particular physiological system, yerkes-dodson law- proposes that we function best when we are moderately aroused- or energized. The evolutionary model- focuses on internal drive states: natural and sexual selection. Metabolism- the rate at which we consume energy. Most important source of energy for the body. Self-induced vomiting, laxatives, diuretics, strict dieting, vigorous exercise to prevent weight gain. Women are much more likely than men to develop anorexia or bulimia: human sexual response. Sexual behavior- actions that produce arousal and increase the likelihood orgasm. Men and woman go through four phases of sexual arousal: Plateau-excitement remains high but is preorgasmic: shorter in men than it is woman.
