Document Summary

Consciousness is being aware of self and our surroundings. A- the processing of information is separated into two tracks in the mind known as dual processing. The conscious level or normal states includes reasoning, remembering, hearing, and seeing. The unconscious level performs automatic tasks that is registered by our sensory and neural systems. A- sequential processing is when you are conscious and focused/attentive. Parallel processing occurs unconsciously because your brain processes information naturally. Inattentional blindness- not being able to see something, like other events because focused on something else. Change blindness- not being able to see a change in the environment because focused on something else. A- unconsciousness does not happen periodically like a coma. Sleep occurs naturally and is the loss of consciousness. Circadian rhythm- when our bodies synchronizes with the 24hr period of night and day biologically (internal clock). This alters our patterns in sleep, temperature, and arousal. Spends the most time (lengthens as the night goes on)
