Basic stages: preattachment (birth 6 weeks, attachment (6 weeks to 8 months, clear cut attachment (6 months to 24 months, reciprocal relationship 18 months 24 months) Engagement (3 weeks to 8 months): infants learn to share attention, relate to others w/ warmth, positive emotion, expectation of pleasant interaction, trust they are secure, milestones: self regulation and intimacy. Two way communication ( 6 months to 18 months): learn to signal needs and intentions, comprehend others" intentions, communicate information (motorically and verbally), make assumptions about safety, reciprocal interactions, milestones: 2 way communication.
