One pulse (brief exposure) to radioactive amino acids showed proteins in rough. Shows that rough er is site of synthesis of proteins that will be secreted. Cells incubated in nonradioactive media (chase) for a short period of time --> proteins located in golgi. Longer chase period --> proteins travel to cell surface via secretory vesicles which then fuse w/plasma membrane to release contents outside of cell. Part 3 - cell structure and function page 1.
