Document Summary

Coordinated series of events involving merging of several types of tissue that will eventually form complete reproductive glands and organs. Differentiation- process whereby a group of unspecialized cells develop into recognizable groups of cells that have a common function. Inner cell mass (icm) gives rise to embryo and germ layers. Germ layers that appear prior to embryo attachment: Will give rise to: digestive tract, lungs, endocrine system. Will give rise to: muscle, skeleton, cardiovascular, reproductive system. Will give rise to: nervous system, skin, hair. Pituitary gland formation hypophysis= pituitary adenohypophysis= anterior lobe neurohypophysis= posterior lobe. Stomodeal ectoderm- tissue in roof of embryo"s mouth this is where anterior lobe of pituitary originates from also gives rise to rathke"s pouch/pocket- diverticulum that grows dorsally from roof of mouth. Rathke"s pouch continues to grow, eventually forming discrete set of cells that differentiate to form enohyophysis aka anterior lobe.
