William masters and virginia johnson divided sexual response cycle into 4 stages. Plateau- arousal continues to build but much slower. Orgasm- occurs when sexual arousal reaches its peak intensity and is discharge in a series of muscular contraction in pelvic area. Vasocongestion: engorgement of blood vessels, produces penile erection and swollen testes in men, produces hard clitoris and wetness in women. Parental investment: refers to what each se has to invest, in terms of time, energy, survival risk, and nurture offspring. Predicts that men will show more intereste in sex, more desire for bariety in exual partners and more willingness to engae in uncommitted sex. Females are thought to be conservative and highly selective in choosing partners. Sexual orientation: refers to a persons preference for emotional and sexual relationships with individuals of same sex, opposite, or both. Heterosexuals: seek emotional-sexual relationships with the oppoite sex.
