The thickness of the atmosphere is determined by two competing factors: If earth"s gravity were turned off, atmospheric molecules would dissipate and disappear. If gravity acted and the molecules moved too slowly to form a gas, the atmosphere would be a liquid or solid therefore we wouldn"t" be able to breathe. When the air pressure inside an object is reduced, there is an upward force. Force of suction-> assume that a vacuum exerts a force. A device that measures atmospheric pressure. Air pressure inside inflated tires is higher than the atmospheric air pressure. Doubling air density, doubles the amount of molecules. We can also double air density by by compressing the air to half its volume. When the buoyant force on the balloon equal its weight, the balloon will cease rising. Principle of continuity -> change of speed with changing cross-section.
