PHY 2020 Chapter Notes - Chapter 22: Test Particle, Voltage Source, Electric Potential Energy
Document Summary
Electricity: a general term for electrical phenomenon, much like gravity has to do with gravitational phenomena, or sociology with social phenomena. Electrostatics involves electric charges, the forces between them, the aura that surrounds them, and their behavior in materials. Positive and negative charges held together by the enormous attraction of electrical force. By forming compact and evenly mixed clusters of positives and negatives, the huge electrical forces have balanced themselves out almost perfectly. When two or more atoms join to form a molecule, the molecule also contains balanced positives and negatives. The positively charged particles in ordinary matter are protons, and the negatively charged particles are electrons. The protons is stuck in the nucleus of an atom and is not as mobile as the tinier electron that can dash around and do all sorts of useful things. Accompanying protons in the nucleus are neutral particles called neutrons.
