PSY 4930 Chapter 2, 7, & 14: Module 2
Document Summary
Chapter 7 (s + d): conducting a good experiment ii. Both the type + number of participants in research in projects are important considerations. Participant being used repeatedly ensures a body of knowledge exists about that type. Availability of one type may discourage the use of others. There are numerous factors to take into account: Availability: number of available participants may influence how many you choose to use in experiment. Also consider the amount of variability to be present within each group. Variability makes it more difficult to see absolute differences between groups (in the case of nuisance variables) Power: probability that a statistical test will be significant. In general, the greater the number of participants the higher the power of the statistical test. While deciding the type + number, you must also consider the type of apparatus. Possible to use it for presenting the independent variable (iv) + recording the dependent (dv)
