Advantages: sharing workload, pooling resources, bouncing ideas around, enjoyment and motivation of working with others, group synergy when the whole group is more successful than each member within it. Disadvantages: takes time to communicate, difficult to reach decisions, conflict, groupthink when members of the group are more concerned with getting the task done as opposed to getting the task done right (deadline can cause this) Interdependence everything that one member does will influence the entire group: can be an advantage or disadvantage. Roles are positions within the group that each member may take: formal roles such as leader, reorder, treasurer, etc, task roles help group to accomplish goal or purpose. Conflict a way of avoiding groupthink; occurs when individuals experience competing goals or ideas. Frame of reference personal experiences, goals, values, attitudes, knowledge, beliefs, age, gender, physical characteristics and abilities, social background, etc.
