MGT 125 Chapter Notes - Chapter 1: Fiedler Contingency Model, Relationship Marketing, Expectancy Theory
Document Summary
Describe the three main contingency theories of leadership. Being an effective leader required not only an understanding of traits and and behaviours, but also an understanding of the situation that a leader is working in and is attempting to lead. The contingency model outlines the necessity of considering and understanding the context that we are working in. The keys to this model are to: De ne those leadership styles and the different types of situations; to identify the appropriate combination of style and situation. If a leader de ned his least preferred co-worker with a relatively positive score, then the respondent was primarily interested in good personal relations with co-workers and the style would be relationship oriented. In contrast, if the leader de ned his least preferred co-worker with a negative score than this leader was more likely to be interested in productivity and is task oriented.
