Attached to male perineum (diamond-shaped region extending from base of scrotum to anus) Corpora cavernosa: 2 that extend along front surface. Urethral orifice: tip. for semen ejaculation or urine excretion. High concentration of nerve endings (important for sexual arousal) Frenulum: underside of penis, attaches glans to foreskin. Foreskin/prepuce: loose skin covering shaft, extends to cover glans penis. Can be pulled back easily to expose glans. Rooted in tradition and religious beliefs, not health principles. Small glands beneath foreskin produce smegma (cheesy substance) If smegma accumulates, can irritate and infect. Unaroused: slightly under 3 inches long (but lots of variation) Size not related to body size or anything (determined by indiv hereditary factors) Aroused: more uniform in size (smaller increase more) Erection doesn"t always mean sexual excitement (may get erect during rem sleep or when anxious)
