Document Summary

All cells have a nucleoid or nucleus where genetic material is stored, a cytoplasm, ribosomes to synthesize proteins, and a plasma membrane: genetic material is classified as dna or hereditary information. In prokaryotes, the genentic code rests in a circular area called a nucleoid (no nuclear membrane). In eukaryotes, the dna is found in a nucleus surrounded by the nuclear envelope: the interior of the cell is filled with a semifluid matrix called the cytoplasm. The cytoplasm contains the proteins, macromolecules, and organelles: ribosomes create proteins, the plasma membrane protects and encloses a cell from outside objects. It is a phospholipid bilayer with embedded proteins in it. Smooth er: important in the synthesis of lipds and membrane proteins. Rough er: has ribosomes on it in order to create proteins and package them for shipment. Packages proteins in vesicles to exit the cell. Cis face- the receiving end of the cell.
