Document Summary

Conjugation- effective contact, f pilus brings two cells together and reversible t4ss puts the pilus out and brings it back in again, it"s modified for dna transfer. Same secretion system that synthesizes the pilus is involved in dna transfer, modified from protein transport to dna transport. Dna transfer ssdna- rolling circle replication of the f plasmid to put a ssdna copy into the receiving cell. Hfr- in order to transfer chromosomal dna the plasmid has to integrate into the chromosome. This integrase is called hfr- high frequency recombination. How you transfer chromosomal dna that will be available for recombination in the recipient. Transduction- use of a bacteriophage to move dna from one cell to another. Dna must be recombined in order to be used in the host/recipient bacterial cell. Specialized- lysogenic phage- select group of genes at high frequency. Requires a lysogenic phage to integrate into the genome of the bacterium.
