Document Summary

March 27, 2012: storytelling gains attention and helps to focus students. Example: if studying about american indians students might identify items that would be helpful in learning about american indians like food, clothing, housing, games, jobs and celebrations. Allow time for exploration of the text book or other materials like trade books, maps, and artifacts, to find examples of these treasures. Students could also find things at home: mysterious artifacts bringing in items or pictures of items for students to identify. Example: give students guiding questions like what is this for? , who would have used this? , What would this have been used for? , and what is this made for? and have the students fill in a chart to answer these questions. This activity would help students pay attention to detail and hopefully generate a number of questions about historians and artifacts: kwl chart this is a very useful graphic organizer.
