HIST 2057 Chapter : History 2057 Unit 1
Document Summary
Due to resource capacities, the north was able to just wear down the south. Some places of the south were filled with great devastation, yet some were able to continue on fine. Major crops of the south cotton, tobacco, sugar. The investment in slavery is now all gone. The south now becomes more connected and subservient to the north, which was continually growing. Slavery was national, northern companies had involvement as well: insurance companies, facilitating purchase of slaves. The end of slavery was a huge change in the social and economic realms. The north continually grew throughout the war and in the following years. War is expensive; federal income tax was enforced as an emergency way of gaining money. Foundation was laid for centralized paper currency and banking system. Money can be moved around much more easily. The north during peacetime was carrying on stronger than ever and getting stronger; the south was reorganizing and rebuilding itself.
