When given a lot to read, give yourself time and break up the reading over a couple of days. Preview each assignment well in advance to assess its difficulty level to determine how much reading time to set aside. Set a purpose for what you want to achieve when completing the assigned reading. Stop often to see whether or not you are comprehending the material: summarize, ask and answer questions, do not read in a vacuum. Sq3r strategy: survey the text, form questions before you start reading, read the text, recite/record important points during and after reading, review and reflect on the text after you read. Connect what you read to what you already know. Relate the reading to your own life. Pay attention to graphics as well as text. Plan to talk or write what you read. Know what kind of learner you are: know what conditions you work under best. Types of learning styles: visual learner.
