Changes in basic needs or personal motives. Changes in sense of rights and responsibilities. Developed a theory that relies on stages based around psychological and social crisis. Each crisis carries a dilemma and a solution can be healthy or not. Resolution helps to created the individual"s personality. Birth-1yr: development of trust and mistrust between the caregiver and child. Aren"t in the position to control what is happening to them at this point in their life. 1-3yr: development of control over bodily functions and activities. Child wants to take over the job of personal care. If the student cannot do it, it may cause shame or overprotection from caregiver. 3-6yr: testing limits of self-assertion and purposefulness. Child realizes that acting on impulses may have negative effects. 6-12yr: development of sense of mastery and competence.
