Document Summary

In the 1960s in the west are seen as a time of liberation from antiquated cultural values. Also an educational revolution changing the lives of women and children. American invasion was hated by guardians of high culture in western europe. European tv stations were controlled much more by the government than usa stations. Europeans feared that their culture was going to the usa, also known as the brain drain. People didn"t go to concerts for classical music much, they bought records instead. British invasion saved rock and roll and the beatles played a very influential role. Rock, as an american product, was considered a threat by soviet union and was heavily controlled. Rock was largely a western product with most record sales in america. Rock prospered partly because it appealed an affluent middle class. Partly a result of children shifting from producers to consumers. Parents spent much more time on their children than ever before.
