Being direct: the right to say what you think, to anyone anytime, is the supreme in individualistic societies, and self expression, by extension, is therefore a fundamental right. Low context: the knowledge or experience once member of a group has in common with other members of that group . The purpose of a conversation is to exchange information. High context: the lives of group members are intertwined, and privacy is neither sought nor expected. The purpose of a conversation is to strengthen and deepen personal bonds and relationships. People are very careful about what they say: never direct. Every culture has an entire range of all types of individuals as judged by the norms or standards of that culture. Americans feel obliges to give an honest answer . Americans are careful not to be too critical.
