Meristems are regions of active cell division within a flowering plant. Dermal tissues are the outermost layers in a plant. In young plants and the non-woody parts of the plants the outermost surface is. It is usually a single layer of flattened cells. They create cutin which is wax like substance that makes cuticles. There are cells on each side of the pores that handle the opening and closing called the guard cells. What are the two types of veins and what are their functions. The first one is called the xylem and it conducts water and minerals from the roots upwards and the other one is called the phloem which transports organic materials synthesized by the plants. The cells are called the tracheid and the vessel element. The cells involved in the transport of organic materials in the phloem. Sieve plates are the cell walls for the sieve tube members and have several to many pores.
