EDPSY 014 Chapter Notes - Chapter 6: Interference Theory, New Math, Information Processing
Document Summary
Information processing model- describes process that information is remembered or forgotten. 3 components: sensory register- incoming stimuli, working memory- where thinking takes place, long term memory. Executive processing- learning is controlled by the learner. It is determined by the person and their interests. Sensory register: people must pay attention to information if they want to retain it. Ask if students have a question to help them process* It takes time to bring all of the information into consciousness. Episodic- mental movie : pictures tie semantics into episodic memory. Semantic- facts and general information: schemata. Procedural- knowing how to do something such as driving: a physical task. Flashbulb memory- important event fixes memory on specific details. Levels of processing theory- the more you attend to details of a stimulus, the more mental processing you do on it and the more likely you are to remember. Dual code theory- information is retained in verbal and visual memory.
