Managers fail to acknowledge the potential of rewards to motivate unethical behavior. How goals combined with rewards can encourage unethical behavior. General pygmalion effect- people in school and work settings live up to expectations set (high or low) Ethical pygmalion effect- gets people to think about how to reach goals. If people expect their behavior to be punished -less likely to do it. More positive when recipient perceives it as fair.
