The way we think about our bodies (and the way our culture tells us we should think) is a key component of self-esteem. Every culture dictates certain types of body decoration or mutilation. Collective self - person derives his/her identity in large measure from a social group; important in eastern cultures. Self-concept - summarizes the beliefs a person holds about his/her own attributes and how or she evaluates the self on these qualities. We describe self-concept along such dimensions as: Content, such as facial attractiveness vs. mental aptitude. A(cid:272)(cid:272)ura(cid:272)(cid:455), the degree to (cid:449)hi(cid:272)h o(cid:374)e"s self-assessment. Intensity and stability over time corresponds to reality. Identity - any category label with which a consumer self-associates that is amenable to a clear picture of what a person in that category looks like, feels, and does; or each element that contributes to our self-concept.
