Hearing: a biological acivity that involves recepion of a message through sensory channels. Listening: involves recepion, atenion, percepion, and understanding the meaning of the message. Paraphrasing: making a summary of the ideas you have just received. Percepion: taking the material received and atemping to analyze what has been input- screening process. Linear learners/listeners: people who learn best with structure and logic (let-hemisphere learners) Global learners/listeners: people who prefer examples and useful/applicable informaion and visuals (right-hemisphere) Discriminaive listening: atempt to disinguish the auditory and visual simuli. Criical listening: listener evaluaing the message that has just been received. Therapeuic listening: requires a listener to learn when to ask quesions, simulate discussion or give advice. Appreciaive listening: when a person engages in enjoyment or sensory simulaion to a message (ex: comedians) Listener apprehension: fear of hearing a message (ex: receiving bad news) Egospeak: speaking only about what you want to talk about and not listening to anyone else.
