Politics also depends on citizens organizing & mobilizing to make their voices heard, not just elected/appointed officials. Political party--a political organization that seeks to influence policy, typically by getting candidates & members elected or appointed to public office. Because of elections, parties must be responsive to what the electorate wants & demands; typically defined by a set of principals with a party platform. Party system--patterns of party politics characterized by the number of relevant parties in a country. Interest group--organizations that make demands in the political system on behalf of their constituents & members. Interest groups generally advocate for some policy position or political perspective, but may not support specific candidates. May endorse candidates, but also work for their cause through petitioning or lobbying politicians to pass certain policies or laws. Sometimes interest groups also provide services for their members.
