Students are affected greatly by having several effective or ineffective teachers in a row: difference in over 50 percentile points on tests between students with good & students with bad teachers. Lower-achieving students first to benefit from good teachers: effects of teaching are cumulative & residual; having a good teacher only wipes out some of the effects of the bad one, never fully. In 1940s & 50s, concentrated on individual differences, assessment, & learning abilities.
