Document Summary

Universal declaration of human rights (udhr): unanimously adopted by the member states of the un in 1948. These rights include the right to social security, the right to education, the right to a standard of living adequate for health and well-being, the right to privacy, the right to freedom from torture. However, the udhr does not state that people have a right to be healthy. It does state that all people have the right to medical care and the underlying tools for health like safe drinking water and adequate nutrition. Standard of health: targets that governments set for improving the health of the populations they govern. People who are denied their human rights are unable to advocate for their own health, and populations that are unhealthy are unable to advocate for their rights. By adopting the udhr, all un member countries have the obligation to call attention to human rights violations in other countries.
