In the 1950s there was still a lot of hatred for black music; african americans who were living in the united states were constantly being impacted by the racial tension since many people opposed rock n roll. It was becoming very popular and people started using the music to portray their views against racism. After the brown vs. board of education case had taken place, african americans were motivated to fight for racial equality which shows that the tensions were very heavy during this time. Furthermore, rock n roll became a target of southern segregationists, who believed that race mixing led, inevitably, to miscegenation and that exposure to black culture promoted juvenile delinquency and sexual immorality. A member of the ku klux klan used the threat of rock n roll just to enhance his status as a leader of the white councils in alabama. King cole was charged an insult to his race, the criticism for cole reflected african.
