The blood provides energy by delivering sugar and oxygen. The blood takes away waste made by the body"s cells. Bring oxygen to the cells of the body and take away the waste. Most common cells in the blood (hemat/o, hem/o) Hemoglobin grabs onto oxygen when the surrounding oxygen levels are high and releases oxygen when the ambient oxygen levels are low. Helps carry fresh oxygen from the lungs to all parts of the body that need are in need of oxygen. Blood contains different types of white blood cells that each fight different types of infections, and have different jobs: *white blood cells aren"t the body"s only defense. The body also makes special proteins as well- these proteins are called. Different types of immunoglobulins are designed for different tasks. Immunizations force the body to make immunoglobulins against dangerous illnesses. When a vessel is injured it attracts platelets that clump together to form a sticky patch.
