Determine pluses and minuses of an object to decide if we want anything to do with it. Attitude based on beliefs about the objective merits of various brands. How well they clean up dirt & how much the cost. Affectively based attitude: an attitude based more on people"s feelings & values than on their beliefs about the nature of an attitude object. Ex: simply like a car, regardless of how many miles per gallon it gets. Ex: voting based on how one feels about a candidate than their beliefs about his/her specific policies.
