Hostile aggression: behavior motivated by feelings of anger and hostility and whose primary aim is to harm another, either physically or psychologically. Instrumental aggression: behavior that is intended to harm another in the service of motives other than pure hostility. Situational determinants of aggression: situational factors produce aggressive behavior. Heat: higher-than-normal temperature are associated with increased aggression, people are more violent on hot days, heat causes unaware arousal. Media violence: the exposure of media violence increases aggressive violence, more likely when people identify with the perpetrator of the violent act, and after watching justified violence. Violent video games: playing video games, increase aggressive behavior, reduces prosocial behavior, increases aggressive thoughts, increases aggressive emotions, increase blood pressure and heart rate, physiologically responses associated with fighting/fleeing. Social rejection and aggression: social reject activate threat defense system and stimulates feelings of pain and increases likelihood of aggression.
