A two-di(cid:373)e(cid:374)sio(cid:374)al figu(cid:396)e (cid:272)alled the (cid:862)(cid:396)ipple(cid:863) that appears to be three-dimensional: your visual system has made a serious error. It constructs from a whole cloth a ripple in space and then proceeds to embellish it with mutable parts. The (cid:862)de(cid:448)il"s t(cid:396)ia(cid:374)gle(cid:863) figu(cid:396)e, or the impossible triangle: vision finds a solid triangle that is flatly contradicted by evidence. These three figures suggest that vision not only fabricates, but it does so, at times, unconstrained by reality. Then you could never see anything else in the relational sense. Your visual intelligence constructs what you see in the phenomenal sense: you construct your visual experience.
