Some medications have more than one use and may have therapeutic effects on more than one body system. Legend drug: a drug sold only by prescription. Before a new drug is marketed, the manufacturer must develop and fda-approved package insert: the insert provides a comprehensive and concise description of the drug and must accompany each package of the product for dispensing. The physicians" desk reference is published yearly by medical economics. Section 1 (white): manufacturer index- includes an alphabetic listing of each manufacturer with the manufacturer"s address, an emergency phone number, and a partial list of available products. Section 2 (pink): brand and generic name index- a comprehensive alphabetic listing of medications by generic and trade names for drugs found in section 5. Section 3 (blue): product category index- subdivides medications by therapeutic class. Section 4 (gray): product identi cation guide- each manufacturer supplies full- color photographs of actual-size tablets, capsules, and other drug forms.
