People who have power may use it politics and political activity in organizations. We can think of politics as the use of power to influence positions. In organizations, managers may strive to gain favors and favorable decisions through politics. Managers may also use political tactics such as: persuasion. Ingratiation: favors and gifts, emphasizing loyalty, making threats. Whe(cid:374) (cid:373)a(cid:374)agers use po(cid:449)er i(cid:374) (cid:449)ays that are co(cid:374)trary to the orga(cid:374)izatio(cid:374)"s goals, policies, and rules, politics is negative. In that case, employees think playing politics is bad. Politics can be used positively, such as to influence stakeholders to resolve a tense, long- standing conflict that has paralyzed an hco. Politics is a normal part of organizational life and hco managers should expect it. Managers have power, and they use it to influence decisions, overcome disagreements, and resolve conflicts so that the hco can achieve its goals and missions.
