Analytical psychology: rests on the assumption that occult phenomena can and do influence on the lives of everyone, our collective unconscious collects experiences from our ancestors (archetypes), the goal of analytical psychology is self-realization. Levels of psyche: conscious: mental images that are sensed by the ego. Compared to the unconscious, this plays a minor role. Healthy individuals are in contact with their conscious world, but they also allow themselves to experience their unconscious self which leads them to achieve individuation: personal unconscious: repressed, forgotten, or subliminally perceived experiences. A complex is an emotionally toned conglomeration of associated ideas. (example: our experiences around the concept of mother") Since each person has their own individual experiences, each person has their own unique personal unconscious: collective unconscious: responsible for many of our behaviors, ideas, and dream images. It lies beyond our personal experiences and originates with repeated experiences of our ancestors.
