From Marriage Markets: How inequality is remaking the American family
The structural changes to marriage can be attributed to a list of social, economic, and cultural
reasons. Along with these changes come a new dynamic that governs all the relationships in a
society. For example, some economic changes has allowed the increase in dominance of high-
income men at the top, while marginalising the large number of men at the bottom (Carbone and
Cahn 80). Along with the structural changes, the marriage market can be most readily be
classified into class-based groups (Carbone and Cahn 83). The script that is the role of class
usually pre-determines one's availability in the marriage market. On top of that, we would find it
is one’s monetary resource that defines one’s role of class. As we start to investigate how family
structure is changing, we could first take a step back by start analysing the changes to finding
partners in this society. From this article, we can see how class and marriage are two closely
related concepts which is turn influences the makeup of a family.
Why are all the Cartoon Mothers Dead?
In the exploration of the recurring theme that is the absence of cartoon mothers, we see many
more messages that stem from this format of plot. In the event that the mother disappears early in
the story, it usually serves the purpose of giving the content a logical and meaningful beginning.
Along with the absence of a motherly figure comes an opportunity for the fatherly figure to take
over the storyline. Not only does this enlarges the issue of the lack of women representation in
animation films, but it also marginalises the female characters that actually does exist in those
films. It is hard to identify what exactly is causing the lack of representation of women figures,
but what could be determined is that there is a fundamental reality that mirrors this exact
phenomenon in our society. Whether it be in the work sectors or the portrayal of women in
