PSYCH 130 Chapter Notes - Chapter 3.4: Human Tooth Development, Neural Tube, Wicket-Keeper
Document Summary
Most rapid prenatal changes, groundwork for all body structures and internal organs. Especially vulnerable to interference with healthy development. Embryonic disk forms first three layers of cells: Mesoderm: muscles, skeleton, circulatory system, internal organs. Endoderm: digestive system, lungs, urinary tract, glands. Ectoderm folds over to form the neural tube (primitive spinal cord) 3. 5 wks - top of neural tube swells to form the brain. Heart begins to pump blood, muscles, backbone, ribs and digestive tract appear. Eyes, ears, nose, jaw and neck form. Tiny buds become arms, legs, fingers and toes. Intestines grow, heart develops separate chambers, liver and spleen take over blood cell production. 7 weeks: neurons form inside the neural tube and travel along tiny threads to their permanent locations. Can sense the world, responds to touch, esp in the mouth and soles of feet. Organs, muscles, and nervous system start to become organized and connected.
