Document Summary
The effect of ph and temperature on the activity of amylase. Lab partners: hannah cavanaugh; madison beebe; zoe blanchard. Biol 1107 n61l professor green; lab ta: laura thompson. Enzymes are macromolecules, that act as a chemical agent (catalyst) and speeds up a reaction by lowering the activation energy without being used up in the reaction and can be recycled. (reece, et al 2013). Reece continues that without enzymes, the chemical traffic in body will increase and many chemical reaction would take a long time. These enzymes can be denatured and damaged under specific environmental conditions, especially when it is not reacting under its ideal temperature and ph. An enzyme can only increase the rate of a reaction when it receives the ideal environmental conditions. If an enzyme is damaged, the chemical reaction occurs at a slower pace. As the temperature increases, the molecules will move faster and obtain more kinetic energy (reece, et al 2013).
