Spring and autumn period - when wu was still a state. Master wu (art of war) advised wu. Qin became the most powerful state in the warring period. Warring states coincided with introduction of iron. Legalism - believed that rulers had to strictly enforce the laws otherwise people would resort to bad behavior. Daoism - believed that they needed to remove themselves from society. Physically left society or simply mocked it. Older half brother was kong mengpi (cripple) Father thought he was unfit to follow in his footsteps. At 66 kong-shu took another concubine and had confucius. Madam shi kicks out confucius and his mother. Yan hui - confucius student (only friend) Wife was unable to live with him (annoyed) Ordered destruction of suspicious buildings belonging to 3 rich huan families. Sent king beautiful maidens who lost interest in the affairs of the state. Confucius left after ding spent all his time with the maidens.
