Document Summary

Psyc 1 textbook notes module 11: behavior genetics: predicting individual. Differences & module 12: evolutionary psychology: understanding human nature. Behavior genetics: study of relative power, limits of genetic and environmental influences on behavior. Genome: complete instructions for making an organism; all genetic material. Identical twins: from single egg that splits in two: don"t have same number of copies of genes, sometimes don"t have same placentas. Identical twins more similar behaviorally, even when raised apart. Environment shared by family"s children has no impact on personalities. Temperament: emotional reactivity and intensity: genetically influenced, persist past infancy, and may become more apparent. Heritability: how much variation can be attributed to genetics: measures not how the trait is due to x% of environment and y% of genes, but rather extent of how different people are due to genes. If everyone is raised the same, differences have to be due to genetics. If everyone is raised differently, differences can be due to the differing environments.
