Document Summary
Memory: defined as capacity to preserve and recover information. Gives personal identity, spoken language, thought and reason. 3 parts/processes: encoding: determine and control how memories are initially acquired, storage: controls how memories are maintained, retrieval: how stored memories are recovered and translated into performance. Define: limited capacity system, hold information that has been analyzed for less than a minute or two. Uses sensory memory (exact replica of environmental message, lasts a second or two), and working aka short term memory. Iconic memory: lingering sensory memory trace, stores visual sensory memories. Echoic memory: for auditory system from the auditory sensory memories. Note: sensory memories are exact copies of environmental message, short term memories are not. Inner voice: use to short thing sin short term because often called on to interpret and produce spoken language. Problem: errors are made acoustically based which change the visual input into an inner vice. Ex: how many windows in your house -- visualize.
