Ater is split to provide replacement electrons to chlorophyll; the splitting of water during the light reactions produces two hydrogen ions and an oxygen atom and releases two electrons. These electrons replace electrons from chlorophyll that were passed along the electron transport chain. Hydrogen ions power atp production and combine w electrons to produce nadph. Atp and nadph are produced during the light reactions and are used to convert carbon dioxide into sugars during the calvin cycle.
