Litoral zone-1. the area closest to the shore & is shallow, which allows sunlight to reach the botom. Limneic zone-2. the open water area that is well lit and is dominated by plankton, many organisms live in this zone because of all of the food available. Plankton-free-loaing photosyntheic autotrophs that live in freshwater or marine ecosystems. Profundal zone-3. deepest areas of a large lake where litle light is able to penetrate through, much colder and lower in oxygen then other two zones. The characterisics of rivers and streams change during the journey from the source to the mouth. More organisms live in slow-moving rivers than fast-moving rivers. The temperature of lakes and ponds varies depending on the season. Water is the only substance that is lighter as a solid than a liquid. Warm and cold water don"t mix very much because they are two diferent densiies. Through seasons, water and air change temperature and eventually decrease/increase, meeing at a point.
