Dispersion-the patern of spacing of a populaion within an area (three types; uniform- straight lines ordered, black bears, clumped-travel in groups, bison, random-no speciic patern, all dispersed, deer) Density-independent factor-any factor in the environment that does not depend on the number of members in a populaion per unit area (abioic factors such as weather & temperature) Density-dependent factors-any factor in the environment that depends on the number of members in a populaion per unit area (bioic factors such as predaion, disease, parasites, and compeiion) Populaion growth rate-(pgr) explains how fast a given populaion grows. Emigraion-a term ecologists use to describe the number of individuals moving away from a populaion. Immigraion-a term ecologists use to describe the number of individuals moving into a populaion. Carrying capacity- the maximum number of individuals in a species that an environment can support for the long term (limited by the energy, water, oxygen, and nutrients available)
