EDUC346 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Authentic Assessment
Document Summary
Authentic assessment - focus is on what students do and produce rather than on test scores. How well a student is learning and performing. Extent to which an individual can meet indicators of success that relate to particular characteristics. Specific knowledge or skills that are expected to result from the teaching/learning activities. In social studies, the most widely used forms of tests are written ones that involve answering questions or performing specified tasks. Tests that require value judgements in evaluation. Projects and reports are difficult to assess because there are many outside influences that factor into the quality of the outcome. Teachers need to carefully structure instruction so that students learn how to make judgements. Identifies features that the project/report is to include and what characteristics the teacher expects. Clarifies teachers" expectations when given ahead of time. Based on careful examination of student behaviors or products in the light of clearly identified criteria.
