Engaged time - instructional time in which students are actually paying attention and on- task. Productive time - amount of time students spend on work that is meaningful and appropriate. How to increase students" productive learning time. Don"t leave students waiting with nothing to do. Flip-flopping - going between activities with no reasoning. Stimulus-bound events - teachers are pulled away from current activity by a stimulus that doesn"t really need attention. Overdwelling - continuing to explain when students already understand. Fragmentation - breaking down an activity into components when it could easily just be done in a single unit. Prepare students for activities that will occur after special classes, lunch, recess, etc. Use a timer so students can see how much time they have left.
