EDUC745 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Professional Responsibility, Problem Solving, State Implementation Plan
Document Summary
Well-defined problem = identify specific actions to implement a plan; straightforward; easily identified and understood. Partially-defined problem = goal is clear; some guidelines exist; specific means for reaching goals vary; problem could have many solutions but range is constrained by external factors; typically not difficult to identify. Ill-defined problem = no clear parameters; more complex; not easily resolved. Reactive - faced with responding to a crisis/problem that requires attention or action in a brief time frame. Proactive - anticipated situation is focus of attention; before a crisis occurs. Participants agree on the factors that indicate the discrepancy. Problem statements should suggest various kinds of solutions. Think of divergent and convergent elements - narrow and broad. Confirm the problem with multiple sources of info. Chaining - linking ideas through a concept. Brainwriting - individually write 3-4 potential solutions and place in a pile; pick someone else"s list; generate new ideas for potential solutions.
